Bat Mitzvahs and Books

This morning was the Bat Mitzvah of the girl I've been working with for the summer. She had an excited innocence surrounding her that I remember myself, except that I was obsessive. It was really nice, though. She more than made up for the atrocities the Cantor has been putting the synagogue through lately.

This evening was her reception, which I begged off of a while ago expecting to be spending the evening in San Diego with all of you. However, she did give me a gift card to Barnes & Noble as a thank you gift, so I took my iPod on a date. It was really nice, and exactly what I needed. I've been a chipper combination of confused, angry, and depressed lately (Can someone please tell me how I gently tell my mother that her new-found obsession with spirit mediums and signals is quite overwhelming an alarming to me, and that I am not at all ready to deal with any thoughts about an afterlife?), and something about sitting in a book store reading with Hybrid or Portishead really helped. Plus, I got a fascinating book out of it.
